Choose Life
The North East Tennessee Chapter is one of 50
local chapters of Tennessee Right to Life, Which is affiliated with National
Right to Life Committee.
The NRLC maintains a legal research and lobbying staff in Washington, D.C. to
monitor legislation that may affect the pro-life cause, to advise local chapters
on legal matters and to lobby for effective pro-life legislation. The
ultimate goal of the NRLC is to restore legal protection to innocent human
life. The primary interest of the NRLC and its members has been the
abortion controversy, however, it is also concerned with related matters of
medical ethics which relate to the right to life issues of euthanasia and
infanticide. The Committee does not have a position on issues such as
contraception, sex education, capitol punishment, and national defense.
Tennessee Right to Life maintains a lobbyist in Nashville to monitor legislation
and to lobby for pro-life measures.
Drawing on the resources of both the state and national organization, the
Northeast Tennessee Chapter conducts educational activities and grassroots
political campaigns for pro-life legislation. The Chapter publishes a quarterly newsletter
to keep members informed of legislative developments and to promote support for
its educational activities. The chapter regularly sponsors exhibits at
fairs and public expositions. It also sponsors the annual Life Chain on
the first Sunday of October, to call public attention to the social blight of
abortion.
All right to life activities are supported by voluntary contributions.
Most of the staff positions are held by volunteers.
The chapter operates with the conviction that the people of Northeast Tennessee
are pro-life and that the major part of its mission is to make legislatures and
courts aware of that fact.
